Bobby Duncan has thanked Tim Sherwood and Andy Towsend after the two Sky Sports pundits backed the 18-year-old over his decision to quit Liverpool.

The young striker agreed terms to join Fiorentina this week after a huge social media storm involving his agent Saif Rubie, who accused the club of mental bullying for the way they treated his client.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Debate this week, Sherwood and Townsend both admitted they understand why Duncan took the decision to move on so that he can get first-team football and perhaps match the success that other young English players have had outside of the United Kingdom.

Duncan took to his personal Twitter account showing the clip of Sherwood and Townsend and said: “Some finally understands! Thanks, Tim and Andy.”

OPINION

Duncan cannot have seriously expected to, within a year, be getting into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad at Anfield. The 18-year-old signed from Manchester City last summer and with players like Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster all seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order, it was always going to be tough to make an impact within 12 months. Duncan might have moved to Liverpool under false pretences and while you can hardly blame him for being desperate for senior football, the way he and his agent went about his exit was not right at all. Liverpool have now got rid of the teenager and it is probably for the better after the statement that Rubie released last week. It would have been tough to fix the relationship between the club and the player after that. Hopefully Duncan no longer has Rubie working for him because it is clear that he does not have the striker’s best intentions at heart.
