Christian Benteke won’t be remembered fondly at Anfield for his time as a Liverpool forward.

The Belgian international struggled immensely after his move from Aston Villa and was quickly moved on to Crystal Palace by Jurgen Klopp who has gone on to create one of the best-attacking line-ups in the world.

Benteke scored nine goals in his one and only Premier League season for the Reds, as he failed to consistently find the net in his 29 appearances for the club.

Things haven’t been much better since he left Merseyside either, with Benteke only scoring four goals in his last 53 top-flight appearances – with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane already scoring that many at the beginning of this campaign.

The 28-year-old recently admitted he still believes he could play inbetween the prolific African duo despite his struggles in the final third.

“Yeah,” he responded to a question from Sport Bible.

“It’s easy to say now because I play for Palace and they play for Liverpool, but when you train every day with the same players and the manager believes in you, it’s easier.”

Benteke is surely having a laugh if he believes that he could lead the line for the Reds at this stage in his career, with the forward even struggling to make an impact for Crystal Palace at this moment.

To come out and admit that you still believe you can lead the line for the champions of Europe despite scoring four goals in three seasons is simply ludicrous, and Benteke should concentrate more on his own game rather than the Reds.

Klopp likes to have a joke and not keep things too serious, and this will surely have tickled him, especially after he was the coach to make sure Benteke was sold to the Eagles.

Benteke is having a laugh, as even he surely can’t believe that he can still do a job in the prolific front-three of Liverpool.
