Rhian Brewster is primed to be involved in Liverpool’s squad for the Champions League clash with Napoli, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claim on their website that after Divock Origi picked up a knock in the 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday, Brewster is set to take his place.

The Liverpool Echo report that the 19-year-old was withdrawn early from the under-23’s clash with Derby on Saturday in order to keep him fully fit for the trip to Italy.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed to Sky Sports after the clash at Anfield that Origi was set to have a scan on his ankle, despite being in really good shape.

OPINION

This seems to be the obvious switch for Klopp and Liverpool, who will be looking to expose Brewster to much more senior football this season after impressing in the club’s academy. The 19-year-old forward will definitely be on the bench for a game of such magnitude as the Reds look to avenge last year’s defeat in the group stage in Italy whilst getting their Champions League campaign off to the best possible start. Brewster will want to cement his spot in Klopp’s senior plans if given the chance to come off the bench in the game, but that is unlikely unless the Reds are chasing the game or if one of the front three are injured. The England youth international has yet to make his debut for Liverpool, and it is only a matter of time before he does after being involved in 20 goals in 25 games for the under-23’s in the past couple of seasons.
