OPINION
When Liverpool forward Divock Origi went down injured in the first half against Newcastle United, Roberto Firmino was introduced to a massive cheer at Anfield. The Brazilian was somewhat surprisingly named as a substitute in the game, and instantly got to work to try and change the game with the score 1-1 on his arrival. The 27-year-old was in great form as he single-handedly assisted a couple of goals to secure all three points in a 3-1 win. It wasn’t just setting up the goals where he impressed in the game, as he had three shots on goal as well as completing a single key pass and dribble according to WhoScored. His second assist was a thing of beauty, as he ball-rolled across his man and flicked it in the opposite direction to give Mohamed Salah a clear run on goal to seal the win. Liverpool posted a video of the assist on their official Twitter account on Sunday, and many Reds’ fans instantly started gushing over their central forward, drowning the Brazilian with praise.
