Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona are both interested in signing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and centre back Virgil van Dijk, according to AS.

The Spanish outlet claims that both El Clasico sides are readying raids for the German boss, with uncertainty abounding around Zinedine Zidane and Ernesto Valverde.

However, it’s said that the main reason the two teams want Klopp is because they are both eyeing a swoop for Reds centre half Van Dijk.

They believe the former Borussia Dortmund man has been a big factor in the Dutchman’s progression to becoming the world’s finest defender, and are keen to bring them both to Spain.

OPINION

This is about as worrying a report as you could possibly read from a Liverpool fans’ point of view. Klopp is absolutely essential to everything positive the Reds have done over the past few seasons, helping them get back to their former status and guiding them to Champions League glory last time out. It’s no surprise that two of the biggest sides in world football would be after him given what he has achieved at Anfield. However, would Klopp want to leave Liverpool, even for one of these two teams? That’s the big question at this moment in time. The most worrying thing is that the two teams’ are eyeing Klopp because they think he’d be able to help them get Van Dijk in. So not only do they want the Reds boss, but they want the club’s best player as well. This is extremely concerning for Liverpool if this report is correct. The success or failure of them going after the duo would tell us a lot about where Liverpool stand in the world football pecking order. But make no mistake about it, this would rock Liverpool.
