OPINION
Georginio Wijnaldum is someone who has been criticised by some Liverpool fans for his performances this season, but the same cannot be said on Friday night when sections of supporters were blown away by his latest performance for the Netherlands. Wijnaldum, along with Anfield team-mate Virgil van Dijk, played in a 4-2 win for the Dutch in their Euro 2020 qualifier against Germany, with the former Newcastle star playing a key role for Ronald Koeman’s side as he scored their fourth goal. One fan described Wijnaldum as being a “different beast” for the Netherlands, but that just shows how under-rated he has been for Liverpool because he stands out in a side where there is less quality. Yes, Koeman has some superb players in his side but they are not on the same level as what Jurgen Klopp has at Anfield. Wijnaldum is someone who gets on with his job quietly at club level but has to step it up more with the international side because he’s being relied upon a lot more than normal.
