New Balance are interested in renewing their deal with Liverpool to manufacturer their kits from the start of next season, according to Foot Mercato.

The French outlet claim on their website that New Balance have a preference clause which would see them retain their deal should they be challenged by another company.

The sports manufacturer are set to challenge Nike after Forbes recently reported that the brand are on the verge of signing a deal with the Reds that would be the biggest in Premier League history.

Liverpool’s current deal with New Balance is worth £45million according to the Daily Mail, who suggested that Nike are the frontrunners to land the Reds.

OPINION

Whichever way this turns out, Liverpool are set to land a lucrative pay-day. The more competitors that are the on the table for the Reds will only drive up the price, and after the Daily Mail reported that the club have also held talks with Puma and Adidas, they are not short on interested parties. Manchester United currently have the biggest kit deal in the Premier League, with their contract with Adidas being worth £75million, so with that being said, some large deals must be on the table for Liverpool to even consider putting pen-to-paper on another contract. With New Balance into the final year of their deal with the Reds, it is no surprise to see them scrambling to keep their partnership with the Anfield club, but with interested parties circling, it appears that the only thing that could possibly save them is the so-called preference call in their current deal.
