Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is set to make his much-anticipated return from injury against Manchester United on Sunday, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper claims that the Brazilian international will face the Red Devils provided he comes through this week of training without any problems.

The 26-year-old, on a reported £90,000-per-week at the club [Source: Spotrac], has only played twice so far this season [Source: Transfermarkt], once in the Community Shield and once on the Premier League’s opening day.

However, he looks poised to make his third appearances of the campaign against the Reds’ hated rivals, having stepped up his training schedule over the international break.

OPINION

This is the news that every Liverpool supporter would have wanted to see on Monday. It’s been a long wait for Alisson to get back to 100% and, while Adrian has performed exceptionally well in his stead, it makes such a difference when the former Roma man is guarding the sticks. Alisson was absolutely key to helping turn the Reds from Champions League runners up to European champions, and so it’s going to be a huge boost to Jurgen Klopp and co. to have him back in the fray from the United game onwards. Credit must go to Adrian for performing so well that Alisson’s time on the sidelines hasn’t been back-breaking for the Reds. The Spaniard was brought in late in the summer but has adapted superbly to life on Merseyside. In some ways he’s unlucky to be going back to the substitute’s bench, but that’s what happens when you play the same position as somebody as good as Alisson. Either way, this is terrific news for Liverpool at a time when their title rivals Manchester City can’t seem to stop picking up injuries to key men.
