Liverpool left back Andrew Robertson has been wowed by his Scotland teammate Scott McTominay’s form for Manchester United this season.

The youngster has been a regular for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this campaign, and Robertson is extremely excited to face off with the 22-year-old.

“We obviously have that connection and it’s good that me and Scotty can sort of fly the flag down there,” he said, as per the Daily Mail. “There was a wee bit of banter with Scott during Scotland duty, just a wee bit! Not much, honest.

“I thought he was fantastic for us against San Marino. And he’s been excellent all season in a United team that has had its critics. I think he’s carried himself very well. I’ll be looking forward to facing him on Sunday. Obviously I hope to come out on top.”

OPINION

There aren’t many Man United players who have emerged from the start of this season with some credit, but McTominay is one of the few who has. The Scotland international has been given a regular Premier League berth, providing some consistency in central midfield amid the dramas of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, and the inconsistency of Nemanja Matic. The statistics show that he has been very solid indeed for Solskjaer’s team. As per WhoScored.com, the youngster is averaging two tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 1.3 clearances per game this campaign, while he is managing 52.5 passes per outing. His average WhoScored rating per game of 7.13 tells you all you need to know about how consistently strong his performances have been in a dreadful United side. There have been plenty of quality Scots lining up for Liverpool and United over the years, from Sir Kenny Dalglish and Denis Law back in the day to Darren Fletcher and Charlie Adam in more recent years, and now it’s Robertson and McTominay flying the flag.
