Andrew Robertson caused the melee at the end of Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Leicester at Anfield on Saturday, according to what Ayoze Perez told Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers after the match.

It seemed like almost every player on the pitch was involved in the scuffle after the final whistle, which chiefly involved Perez and Liverpool duo Robertson and Adam Lallana.

Rodgers has revealed that he has since spoken to Perez about the incident and the Leicester midfielder claimed to his manager that it was sparked by the Liverpool and Scotland left-back.

“Perez was upset because he says Andy Robertson pushed him at the final whistle,” said Rodgers, as quoted by journalist Andy Kelly via his personal Twitter account after the match.

OPINION

It remains to be seen whether or not this is the truth as so far as video highlights of the scuffle appear to be reduced to just what Sky Sports News aired on their Super Saturday show. Perez and Robertson were definitely two players who were at the heart of it though with the pair still at each other’s throats as they eventually headed down the tunnel after the melee dispersed. Tempers were understandably high. Leicester had conceded a last-minute penalty which led to them losing the game and earlier on, Hamza Choudhury caught Mohamed Salah with a nasty challenge to leave the Egypt international hobbling off with an injury. It was a very tightly-contested match and even something as innocuous as what Robertson might have done to Perez was enough to provide the catalyst to a bunch of players pushing and shoving. It will be interesting to see if the FA charge both clubs for failing to control their players, although it does not seem that anything too serious happened.
