Danny Mills has hailed Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk, claiming that the Dutchman is “fabulous”.
The ex-England international has also suggested that the 28-year-old is the best in the world in his position at the present moment.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “I look at Virgil van Dijk, who is probably the best centre back in the world at the moment.
“What’s the first thing we say about Virgil van Dijk when we talk about him? ‘He’s a fabulous defender, no-one gets past him’.”
“Van Dijk we say nobody gets past him, we don’t talk about spraying balls.”
“Maguire & Stones, we say great on the ball, but we don’t say great defenders.”
“Defend first, playing is a bonus.”

OPINION
It’s hard to disagree with Mills on this one. After all, Van Dijk has been nothing short of sublime ever since he joined the Reds in January 2018, and his form shows no sign of slowing down any time soon. So far this season, he has 5.3 clearances per match, as well as 1.4 interceptions, and a Whoscored rating of 7.39. He has been magnificent, and while it isn’t the only factor, his signing was certainly a huge step in the right direction for Liverpool in terms of becoming serious title contenders. If he can keep going as he is this term, you certainly wouldn’t bet against the Reds lifting a first Premier League title, and a first league title in 30 years.
