Emile Heskey has claimed that Manchester United uncovered a real weakness in Liverpool’s side in the recent 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

The former Reds’ forward was concerned that it has highlighted how to play against Jurgen Klopp’s side, who remain unbeaten at the beginning of the Premier League season.

Heskey shared that the Red Devils exploited the space in behind Liverpool’s full-backs when they went forward and that it was clear when Daniel James raced away to set up Marcus Rashford in the first half.

“The thing is, Manchester United were uncovering a real weakness in Liverpool, which shows how to play against them,” he told the Express.

“Everyone knows that when you play against Liverpool there’s going to be a lot of space in behind the full-backs and they exploited that, and that’s exactly where the goal came from.”

Liverpool lost their perfect start to the season with the draw, and welcome Tottenham to Anfield on Sunday afternoon looking to avenge that result.

OPINION

Everyone knows that Liverpool have two of the most attacking full-backs in Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but the truth is, they wouldn’t be where they are without them. A defenders main job is usually to keep a clean sheet, but under Klopp, the Reds’ duo are expected to deliver assists and create numerous opportunities for his attacking players. The German is smart in his tactics and expects his two holding midfielders, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to cover the wide areas when his defenders go bombing forward. Heskey shouldn’t be overly concerned, as United’s goal was a simple counter-attack, and on any other day, that goal most likely doesn’t happen as Liverpool rarely find themselves in that position. One poor result doesn’t mean that every opposing side suddenly realises how to play against the Reds, and Klopp will be confident that his side, who have only lost once in their last 48 Premier League games, will bounce back against Spurs on Sunday.
