OPINION

It’s never taken much for the Liverpool fans to turn on centre back Dejan Lovren, and so it proved once again against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. To be fair, this wasn’t the finest first half of football of the Croatian international’s career. He didn’t do anything particularly horrible, but he was vaguely culpable for Harry Kane’s opener for Spurs, which was all the Reds supporters needed to destroy him at the break. He could have done better with the goal, it’s true. Son Heung-min jinked inside onto his right foot, past Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson. He then managed to hit the bar, with an effort that deflected off Lovren’s head on its way through. Kane then gleefully nodded home the opening goal of the game. While Lovren did appear to duck slightly when Son’s effort came in, you can’t really blame the former Southampton man for the goal. However, he didn’t help himself with how he performed for the rest of the half, struggling with Kane from start to finish.
