Melissa Reddy has claimed that Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side won’t make the same mistake against Manchester United this season.

The ESPN journalist revealed that she expects the Reds to not settle for a draw, suggesting they did just that at Old Trafford last season in the 0-0 game in the Premier League.

Reddy opened up on that game, claiming that Liverpool went into the clash relaxed because they had a gap between themselves and Manchester City at the time – similar to their current standing the top-flight at this moment.

“Liverpool had a safety-first approach because they had points to play with at that time over Man City and thought ‘let’s not lose this game’,” she said on The Headline Makers, as quoted by the Express.

“And I think that will actually be one of the marks against United heading into the weekend because Liverpool won’t make that mistake again, I’m sure.”

Liverpool are currently eight points clear of Manchester City after maintaining their perfect start to the season in the Premier League.

OPINION

Klopp will be determined to not let his Liverpool side’s start to the season slip when they travel to Old Trafford, especially after how last season ended in the Premier League. The scenario is nearly identical in this campaign, and it will be in the back of the Reds’ minds that they missed out on their first-ever Premier League title from drawing too many games. Despite it being one of the biggest rivalries in the country, there is no hiding from the fact that Manchester United aren’t what they used to be at this current moment in time, and Liverpool should go into this game wanting nothing but three points but to continue their incredible run of wins. Last years game will have taught them some lessons on what they need to do to go and win this game, and they have more positive injury news going into this one, something that will only help them push on and continue their charge at the top of the table.
