Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on Reds right back Trent Alexander-Arnold, claiming he was never at the level of the 21-year-old.

Carragher was teaming up with grime artist Yungen to select their Premier League XI for the month of October, and Alexander-Arnold easily made the cut at full back alongside Leicester City star Ben Chilwell.

Carragher was effusive in his praise: “The two of them have been outstanding,” he told Sky Sports. “The only one who doesn’t agree appears to be Gareth Southgate. They’re the best two full-backs in the country.

“The difference with Trent is, I don’t think we’ve seen a full-back like him before. There’s no doubt he could play in midfield, but I’ve played full-back, I’m certainly not at the level of Trent, but you get a lot of the ball because you’re always the free man. But, where he plays now, he is the most creative player in the European champions.”

OPINION

There’s no doubt that Alexander-Arnold and Chilwell are England’s best full back combination these days. Southgate appears to have a strange reluctance to go with them full time, opting for Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose at times, but these two are the finest we’ve got at the moment. As for Alexander-Arnold specifically, he is a marvel of a right back. He is the best attacking full back in world football, so creative and with such supreme crossing ability. The statistics from this season demonstrate how dominant he has been for Jurgen Klopp’s team. As per WhoScored.com, the England international has already scored once and grabbed two assists. Meanwhile, he is averaging 1.2 shots, 3.7 key passes, 2.5 crosses and 5 long balls per game. He is a phenomenal creative force, the envy of every other manager in the Premier League. Plus, at just 21 years of age, he’s only going to get better. Now there’s an exciting thought for the Liverpool faithful.
