Jason McAteer has claimed that Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante could be the final piece of the puzzle for Liverpool.

The former Reds’ star heaped praise on Fabinho and the role he has perfected since moving to Anfield and claimed that the Frenchman could add exactly what is needed.

McAteer labelled the two midfielders as the best in their positions in the entire Premier League, and that both have an excellent awareness of danger in the heart of the midfield.

“And that’s exactly what he’s doing,” he told the Racing Post.

“His awareness of danger is fantastic. He and N’Golo Kante at Chelsea are the two best players in the Premier League playing that role and he’s (Kante) definitely one of the final pieces in Jurgen Klopp’s jigsaw.”

Fabinho missed the recent win against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup but has started nine Premier League fixtures already for the Reds.

OPINION

After winning back-to-back titles at Leicester City and Chelsea, there was no arguing that Kante cemented his spot as the best in the Premier League in terms of holding midfielders. The £150,000-a-week [Spotrac] French anchor was phenomenal in both of those seasons, being one of the main reasons that both of his sides were able to secure the silverware. Put him alongside Fabinho and you would have one of the best midfield partnerships in the world at this moment. Fabinho has been integral to Liverpool’s rise in the league, and there has been a passing of the torch somewhat, with the South American now at the top of the pile in terms of defensive midfielders. The 26-year-old may have struggled to settle in Merseyside, but he definitely has now, and Liverpool are fully reaping the benefits of that as he goes into his second season at the club.
