Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has revealed that he would like to manage his former club one day.

The ex-striker is currently in charge at Brisbane Roar in Australia, but while he admits that it is a long term goal, he has made his desire to sit in the dugout at Anfield very clear.

Speaking to the Mirror, he said: “If I’m going to be successful as a coach or manager, I’m aiming for the top – and right now, the top means Liverpool… but I don’t think Jurgen has any plans to go somewhere else any time soon.”

OPINION

This would certainly be an interesting one. Things haven’t started particularly well for Fowler down under, winning just one of his first six matches in charge at Brisbane, but it’s early days, and there’s no reason to believe that he can’t turn things around. It won’t necessarily be easy, and at the moment, he looks about as far away from the Liverpool job as you could imagine, but he clearly has ambition and belief, and the Kop are known for their close relationships with club legends. That being said, if there is any ex-Anfield man being groomed for the top ob it is surely Steven Gerrard. Flying in Scotland, having previously worked with the Reds’ youth system, he has been name-checked by Jurgen Klopp himself as a possible successor when his time to leave comes, as per Four Four Two. Fowler can keep dreaming, but he has a long, long way to go.
