Steven Gerrard has claimed that Liverpool fans are “blessed” to have a talent like Trent Alexander-Arnold at the club.

The England defender has started the season at a canter, registering four assists and a goal already in all competitions, and Kop legend Gerrard has been eager to sing his praises.

Speaking to the Echo, he said: “It’s not a question of ‘how good can he be?’ because he is already there.

“What we have in Trent and Robbo [Andy Robertson] now, straight away, you would put them in the world-class bracket.

“The thing for Trent now is can he maintain that consistency for as long as he can? Because he can go on and be whatever he wants to be.

“What I would say is he is already there and we, as Liverpool fans, are blessed to have these two full-backs in the position because they are absolutely flying.”

OPINION

What can you say about Trent Alexander-Arnold that hasn’t already been said? The young full-back is so good that it’s sometimes easy to forget that he is still only 21, and if he continues at the rate that he is currently progressing then there is no reason why he can’t go down in history as a Liverpool great. So far this season, he has averaged a mammoth 3.5 key passes per game in the Premier League from full-back, and if you factor in his Whoscored rating of 7.36, it is clear that he is one of the form players in the division. To have a great like Gerrard endorse him in this manner is about as high a praise as the local lad could hope for, and make no mistake, the ex-Anfield skipper will not make this kind of comment lightly. The simple fact is that Alexander-Arnold is world class, and that is almost frightening when you consider how high his potential could be.
