Don Hutchison was left baffled after Kenny Cunningham implied that midfielder Fabinho was Liverpool’s weak link.

The BBC pundit clocked the RTE Sports pundit‘s criticism of the Reds’ midfield enforcer after Off The Ball tweeted out his claim that the 26-year-old was the reason why Liverpool have conceded some of the goals they have this season.

“Eh,” wrote Hutchison on Twitter, with his message including a load of laughing emojis.

Cunningham did insist in his interview with Off The Ball that he thought Fabinho was a very good player before proceeding to slam his defensive qualities.

OPINION

Is it any surprise Hutchison is baffled? No, because every Liverpool fan is likely scratching their head too over Cunningham’s remarks, as Fabinho is arguably one of the club’s most consistent players. The 26-year-old Brazilian has averaged a rating of 7.16 on WhoScored after his first four Champions League outings of the season and a score of 7.02 after his first 10 Premier League appearances of the season, and he has a respectable rating because of the job he does defensively in midfield (Source: WhoScored). Fabinho has averaged 2.5 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per match across his 10 Premier League outings, as per WhoScored, and that shows that he is being an effective and active force in the Reds’ midfield when it comes to stopping opponents getting close to goal. Also, Cunningham’s opinion of Fabinho becomes even more questionable when you realise he rates Jordan Henderson as being a better defensive midfielder, as that simply isn’t the case. The 29-year-old has averaged fewer tackles and fewer interceptions per game across his 10 Premier League outings, as per WhoScored, and that’s very telling.
