Matt Le Tissier gushed about Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and backed him to be a key player for England at Euros in the summer.

The pundit shared that based on the form that the Reds midfielder had been showing lately then he can be an integral part of England’s midfield going forward.

Le Tissier pointed out that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has the ability to surge forward and score goals, but did make clear that the 26-year-old need to ensure he kept fit in order to become a big player for his nation.

“We’ve seen recently, and if he stays fit, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can be an integral part of that midfield,” said Le Tissier on Sky Sports News (13:37, Tuesday, November 19th).

“He can be one of those players who can surge forward, he has a little bit of creativity about him, he can score goals as we’ve seen recently.

“So I think he could be a really key player if he keeps himself fit between now and the season, then I think he will be a big player in that team in the summer.”

OPINION

Oxlade-Chamberlain may be on the fringes of Liverpool’s squad currently with Jurgen Klopp using him sparingly following his injury-hit 2018/19 campaign, but he’s making the most of his minutes. The 26-year-old has only started two Premier League games so far this season, though has been deployed from the bench six times in the league, but has still managed to look lively by averaging 1.4 shots per game (Source: WhoScored). Klopp has given Oxlade-Chamberlain more of an opportunity to impress in the Champions League as he has opted to start him in both the club’s clashes with Genk. In those clashes, the attack-minded midfielder has stolen the show by racking up three goals, so if England are searching for a midfielder to boost their attacking options, they shouldn’t look any further. However while Le Tissier claims only potential fitness issues are standing in Oxlade-Chamberlain’s way, you have to think, England boss Gareth Southgate would like to see the midfielder featuring more at Anfield.
