Steve McManaman has hailed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for his form of late, claiming that the Liverpool ace is improving all the time.

The £120,000-a-week ace [Spotrac] has been in a purple patch in front of goal for both club and country, and McManaman has been very impressed with what he has seen in recent weeks.

Writing in a column for HorseRacing.net, he said: “Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been brilliant over the past month or so when he’s been given more time to play.

“I have no idea if he will start in the European Championships with England, but he deserves to be there, because his form is excellent.

“He was brilliant last week in the Champions League for Liverpool, his performances are improving the more he stays fit, so I do hope he gets himself into the England squad for the upcoming European Championships.”

OPINION

It’s hard to argue with McManaman on this one. The Ox looks like a different player since returning from injury, and at the moment he is providing something different for both club and country. His willingness to get forward from midfield, plus his eye for goal, makes him a real threat, and his energy levels are through the roof at the moment. If you need any proof of just how effective he has been look no further than his average match rating of 8.44 in the Champions League so far this season, as per Whoscored. Breaking into Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side is no mean feat, and keeping a place is even harder to do, but if the Ox keeps up his current run of eye-catching form, then it’s going to get increasingly harder for the German to deny him a place in his first XI.
