The Athletic’s Liverpool correspondent James Pearce has claimed that there is no truth in the report linking the Reds with Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser.

talkSPORT claimed on Monday that Jurgen Klopp’s side are in advanced talks with sign the Scotland international in January, even theorising that there could be a swap deal on the cards for Harry Wilson.

However, Pearce has now hit back: “Been told that the speculation about #LFC and Ryan Fraser is wide of the mark,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“Claims that they are in talks over a January move dismissed as ‘nonsense’. Liverpool have also recently been linked with Denis Zakaria from Gladbach but Klopp happy with his midfield options.”

OPINION

This was a strange one that came about on Monday, but it’s something that kind of makes sense but also kind of doesn’t. You need quality players behind the club’s fearsome front three, and Klopp doesn’t appear to fully trust Xherdan Shaqiri anymore. Fraser is a proven Premier League player who has done it over a few years at Bournemouth. However, he’s not in good form at the moment. The Scot has been poor this term, and so it’s slightly strange timing. You also wonder if Liverpool need to switch things around in January when everything’s going so well for them at the moment. Then there’s the Wilson part of it all. The Welshman is one of the hottest prospects in English football. He was superb on loan at Derby County last season, while he has handled the step up to the top flight with aplomb during his temporary spell at the Vitality Stadium this time round. Why would you give up on him? There’s no need to do so.
