Paul Robinson has claimed that Manchester City youngster Phil Foden could be a real threat to Liverpool on Sunday.

The teenager has played just 31 minutes of Premier League football this season, split over four substitute appearances.

But despite his lack if game time, Robinson believes he can cause the Reds issues.

When asked who to look out for at Anfield during an interview with Football Insider, he said: “Well do you know what… Phil Foden came off the bench and he kind of changed the tempo of the game, he changed the pace of the game, he created chances, he had a couple of chances for himself and I think he’s outstanding

“He’s obviously a local who is having to bide his time there, but with David Silva going at the end of the season, he’s obviously been earmarked for that position, that slot if you like, so he’s having to bide his time as he’s getting very little game time.

“But when he came off the bench, I thought he was outstanding with everything that he did.”

OPINION

Nobody is doubting that Foden is a serious talent, but if you were going to name players who can hurt Liverpool on Sunday, you would expect the England international to be pretty far down the list. That’s not to say that he can’t do some damage, but rather that he barely gets on the pitch enough to make much of an impact. 31 minutes is nothing in the grand scheme of things, and that is reflected in how limited his performances have been at times this season. With just 0.5 shots, 0.8 key passes, and 0.5 successful dribbles per game, as per Whoscored, he has hardly set the Premier League on fire thus far this season, and as such, it seems strange that Robinson has singled him out. Maybe this will end up being an inspired shout, but at the moment, it’s enough to make you do a double-take.
