BBC pundit Micah Richards has suggested that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is playing mind games with Liverpool after recent comments.

The former City defender claimed that Jurgen Klopp took the bait and had a little nibble after responding to the Spaniards recent comments.

“It’s mind games,” he said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I think that’s what the title races needs.

“It looks like its stirred Klopp up.

“The way Klopp’s reacted there, he’s had a little nibble.”

This came after Guardiola accused Sadio Mane of diving to win a lot of decisions for his club, with Klopp firing back and suggesting that City committed too many tactical fouls.

The two teams meet at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, as the Reds look to extend their gap at the top of the Premier League to nine points.

OPINION

Well, the Premier League title race is really starting to heat up now. Both Klopp and Guardiola have not held back in their assessments of one another’s sides, even though they both have a Champions League fixture to go through before the all-important clash at Anfield on Sunday. It was a bold claim for Guardiola to suggest that Mane is a diver, but it definitely appears to have done the trick on his opposite number. City need to be careful to not try and fire up the Reds too much though, having been on the end of a determined Liverpool side in the Champions League two years ago, where they were simply blown away when making the trip to Anfield that night. The ultimate motivation for Liverpool is to extend their lead at the top of the table to nine points, and Klopp should keep his eyes firmly on that, and not let any passing comments affect him too much moving forward.
