Phil Thompson has questioned Mo Salah’s current form, claiming that the Liverpool talisman is not quite himself.

The 67 cap Egyptian international featured for the Reds in their 2-1 win over Genk on Tuesday evening, but Thompson was not overly impressed with his contribution.

Speaking on Sky Sports (November 5th, 21.00), presenter Julian Warren remarked: “It seems to me that Salah’s no quite himself at the moment.”

Thompson then responded: “I would have to agree with that, yeah.

“I think the injury that he got against Leicester and the international break where he took time to come back, he’s never really been able to hit it off at all.”

OPINION

Mo Salah’s worst form is still probably a whole lot better than most players’ best, but he will still be somewhat disappointed with the way that his season is going at the moment. He may have eight goals and four assists in all competitions, and he is averaging a Whoscored rating of 7.27 in the Premier League, which most players can only dream of, but he is some distance off the 7.57 he registered last year, or the 7.69 he averaged in his first year at Anfield. Increasingly it feels as if there are matches where he is not impacting things as profoundly as he was this time a couple of years ago. That’s not to say that he’s not still really dangerous, but when you set the bar as high as he does, you’re always going to be setting yourself up for a fall.
