Liverpool fans have been starved of excitement in recent transfer windows. With no senior outfield signings last summer, you can’t blame the Kop for getting a little restless, or, for that matter, getting a bit excited when even the faintest whiff of a new rumour comes their way. And that was certainly the case on Thursday when James Maddison retweeted a video of Virgil Van Dijk meeting a Liverpool fan and showing them around Melwood. The Leicester City star captioned the post: “Great watch”, but for many Kopites, there were serious hopes of an ulterior motive. Maddison has been linked with a move to Anfield before, as per ESPN, and what a signing he would be if the Reds were to actually make a move. So far this season, he has averaged a Whoscored rating of 7.70, which puts him in the top three players in the division based on his current form, and above any of the Reds’ squad at the moment. Now, obviously, one tweet means nothing, and there are no guarantees that Jurgen Klopp would even want Maddison, but if there is any kind of interest on the player’s behalf, then the Reds have to capitalise on it.
