OPINION
It seems to be a weekly occurrence that no matter how Dejan Lovren plays, there are always some Liverpool fans who are on Twitter tearing the Croatia international to shreds for his performance. Although Lovren did little wrong in the first-half against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, there were a good amount of supporters on social media who were not happy with the centre-back’s display. Lovren has been called a liability, trash and the side’s weakest link for his performance in the opening 45 minutes. That is not fair at all. Man City may be two goals down but their attacking players are still among the best in world football and Lovren cannot be expected to make every challenge, stop every attack and keep the likes of Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne quiet at all times. Joel Matip is a better centre-back than Lovren, but that does not mean that Lovren should be slaughtered by fans simply because he is not the most popular of players.
