Liverpool are one of seven clubs who have entered “intensive talks” to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz, according to Bild.

The German outlet has claimed on their website that the Reds have been joined by Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Real Madrid in the hunt for the 20-year-old.

Bild have reported that Klopp is a big admirer of the German wonderkid, with his value having risen to £110million, although he is not expected to leave in the January window this season.

It is suggested that Havertz doesn’t want to disrupt his chances of featuring for Germany at the European Championships with a move midway through this season.

OPINION

Havertz is certainly one of the most in-demand talents in Europe, if not the world at this moment in time. Should Liverpool win the race to secure his services in the next year or so, it would well and truly establish their place as one of the biggest clubs in the world. If there has been one question mark surrounding Klopp’s side in the past couple of seasons at Anfield, it would be whether or not his midfield is creative enough and chips in with enough goals to support their ruthless front three in the final third. Havertz would blow that question out of the water with ease – having been involved in 23 goals since the beginning of last season from an attacking midfield role at Leverkusen. The 20-year-old has averaged 2.3 key passes per game in this campaign according to WhoScored – more than double the amount of Liverpool’s best performing midfielder, Fabinho, who has only averaged 1.1. Havertz would be the perfect addition to Klopp’s midfield three and would give his side an extra dangerman for other clubs to worry about when coming up against his side.
