Leeds United’s sporting director Victor Orta has failed to be drawn on speculation linking the Championship club with a move for Liverpool midfielder James Milner.

Orta admitted he wouldn’t reveal any names that Leeds will be targeting in the summer transfer window, with suggestions surrounding a move for the experienced boyhood Whites fan.

The Spaniard shared that he isn’t expecting much work in the winter window, but was then asked whether or not he will launch a move for the £140,000-a-week star [Spotrac].

“No, no, I don’t say anything about the names …” he told Tutto Mercato Web.

The 33-year-old midfielder started his career at the Whites before making moves to the likes of Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Manchester City before switching to Anfield.

OPINION

Well, this is interesting, if Leeds were not interested in bringing Milner back to Elland Road at the end of the season then surely Orta could have just simply rejected the claim made in the interview. The Whites would clearly need to get promoted at the end of the season to be able to pay the wages of the former England star, who has excelled since making the move to Anfield. Milner will want to see out till the end of this campaign to try and help the Reds secure their first-ever Premier League title, before seeing if he could potentially help Leeds secure their top-flight status before retiring. The chance to end your career where it all started would surely be a massive incentive for Milner, who will need to consider his options at the end of this campaign. Leeds would surely not be able to say no if their former player became available, but much will be decided on what Liverpool decide to do when his contract comes to an end.
