Liverpool believe that Brighton & Hove Albion’s out-on-loan centre back Ben White has the potential to be a superstar, according to Football Insider.

The outlet claims that the Reds’ recruitment department have had their heads turned by the 22-year-old, who is currently excelling out on loan at Leeds United, and are keeping close tabs on him.

He is thought to have scored terrific metrics across Liverpool’s sophisticated tracking tools, and is considered to be a superstar on his way up the game.

The European champions’ fierce rivals Manchester United are also interested in the Englishman, whose distribution, awareness and mobility has won him many admirers this campaign.

OPINION

Wow, the White hype train is in full effect at the moment, isn’t it? Marcelo Bielsa seems to have had a revelatory effect on the youngster, somebody who had never started a Premier League or Championship game prior to this season. Now, all of a sudden, the Premier League leaders reportedly see him as a potential superstar. That is quite something, and credit to him for knuckling down and embracing his loan spell at Leeds. To be fair to Football Insider’s report, the statistics do show that White is a top talent. We may not have the ‘sophisticated’ metrics on offer at Anfield, but we can still see that White is a top flight player in the making. As per WhoScored.com, the defender is averaging 1.8 tackles and 2.6 interceptions per game this season, to go with 3.4 clearances and a pass success rate of 85.5%. He’s clearly a very exciting young centre half, and they can certainly develop those at Brighton. Is he good enough for Liverpool? Perhaps not to be a starter just yet, but if they get him in next summer and allow him to develop then he could be someday.
