Clinton Morrison has hailed Liverpool’s decision to extend Jurgen Klopp’s contract at the club, suggesting that the move is “unbelievable”.

The Reds confirmed the news via their official Twitter account on Friday, with the German signing a deal that will keep him at Anfield until 2024.

And speaking on Soccer Saturday (Sky Sports News, December 14th, 12.00), Morrison was eager to praise the deal.

He said: “When the news broke, I’ve got a lot of friends who are Liverpool fans, they think that’s an unbelievable signing.

“They will make signings in January and at the end of the season, but this is the best signing that Liverpool have made for many years because Jurgen Klopp, he’s tremendous.

“That’s a manager I would have loved to have played for.”

OPINION

Morrison is bang on the money here. This is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most positive deals that Liverpool have struck in a long, long time. Klopp has revolutionised this club, and transformed them from sleeping giants into the most fearsome side in Europe. The Reds could easily do a double this season without breaking a sweat, and when you think about where they were when he took over, that is remarkable. So far, during his time at Anfield, he has averaged 2.04 points per game, as per Transfermarkt, and that record is nothing short of sublime. Now, with this new deal, he has the chance to build a dynasty that will echo through the club’s history for decades to come. If he can win a league title this year, and then keep that success going for another five years, Klopp would surely have to be remember as one of, if not the, greatest Liverpool manager of all time.
