James Pearce has claimed that Liverpool teenager Ki-Jana Hoever has a “huge future” at the club.

The 17-year-old has made just the one senior appearance so far this term, scoring in the 2-0 Carabao Cup win over MK Dons.

But writing in a Q&A for The Athletic, Pearce has suggested that the Dutch youth international could go on to become a key player at Anfield.

He said: “Hoever is a big talent and I think he’s got a huge future at LFC as a CB but he’s still very young.”

OPINION

Watching him play, it can sometimes be easy to forget that Hoever is just 17. The youngster is such a precocious talent, and so assured in his own abilities, that he can give the impression of a player far beyond his years. There is certainly plenty of cause to believe that he can go on to become a top tier talent, and if that happens at Anfield, even better. Given that he is still so young, it could be some time before we see him anywhere near the first team on a regular basis, but developing out of the spotlight, with the odd inclusion, and maybe a loan spell further down the line, there’s no saying how good he could become. Jurgen Klopp is very much a believer that if you’re good enough, you’re old enough, and Hoever is definitely good enough.
