OPINION

It’s not easy to break into the Liverpool first team. The Reds are very provably the best team in Europe at the moment, and it takes a special talent to stake a claim with Jurgen Klopp’s side. As such, it’s no surprise to see players like Harry Wilson loaned out in an attempt to get them playing regular football, as opposed to leaving them rotting on the bench. But if the point of a loan is to improve and prove your worth to your parent club, there is very little else that Wilson can do to achieve those goals right now. The Welsh winger has been in fantastic form for Bournemouth so far this term, and hit his fifth and sixth goals of the Premier League campaign with a late brace against Tottenham on Saturday – including a trademark free kick. It wasn’t enough for his side to get the win, but it was enough to get ears pricking up on Merseyside. Wilson may not be starting every week for the Cherries, but more often than not, he has an impact when he does feature. His average of 3.2 shots per 90 minutes, as per Whoscored, show a player who is positive and constantly getting himself into dangerous positions, although other parts of his game, such as his 0.4 key passes, and 0.5 successful dribbles per game leave a little to be desired. He still has a lot to learn, but given his strike rate so far this season, he must be catching the eye of those in charge at Anfield.
