Naby Keita is likely to feature for Liverpool against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, according to The Athletic journalist James Pearce.

The £120,000-a-week [Spotrac] midfielder has yet to start a Premier League match so far this season, but Pearce has suggested that could change on the south coast this weekend.

Writing in a Q&A for The Athletic, he said: “I think there’s a good chance he plays.

“Klopp said the other night that he had looked very good in training.

“If he doesn’t play v Bournemouth then you have to wonder when he will get an opportunity to shine.”

OPINION

You have to be worried for Keita if he doesn’t get a nod against the Cherries on Sunday. To be fair to the 24-year-old the early stages of his season were hampered by injuries, but now that he has reestablished his fitness, he doesn’t look any closer to a regular starting role. To have not made any Premier League starts so far this term is an absolute travesty, and when he has played in the Champions League, has looked wholly impressive. The Guinean has averaged two tackles, 2.3 successful dribbles, and a pass completion rate of 93.2% in Europe this term, as per Whoscored, and on the basis of that alone, he surely deserves his chance in domestic competition sooner rather than later. Obviously, no game in the Premier League is a given, but you can’t help feeling that there won’t ver as better opportunity for Keita to get a comfortable run out than against Bournemouth this weekend.
