James Pearce has suggested that Jadon Sancho would not make it into Liverpool’s starting XI were he to sign for the club.

The Athletic journalist admitted that Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the Borussia Dortmund winger, but suggested that he would cost a handsome fee and would not be guaranteed a place in the first team.

Writing in a Q&A for his outlet, Pearce said: “Klopp likes him but he wouldn’t come cheap (talk of £100m) and I don’t think he gets in Liverpool’s first choice line up.”

OPINION

This is a big claim from Pearce, but one that might well be true. It’s almost impossible to imagine Jurgen Klopp dropping any of his first choice front three right now, with Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, and Roberto Firmino arguably forming the most lethal triumvirate in European football right now. As such, £100 million feels like a ridiculously high fee for a player who will more than likely sit on the bench most games. That being said, Sancho is not like most other players. The youngster has a sky high potential and could legitimately become one of the best players in the world if he continues on his current trajectory. With a Whoscored rating of 7.49 so far this season in the Bundesliga, the England international actually outranks both Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino based on his current form, and it would surely be hard for the Reds to turn their nose up at a teenager with that kind of quality, no matter how much he cost them.
