OPINION

Liverpool aren’t exactly short of quality attacking talent.

Some would argue that the Reds have the best offensive line in the country, others would argue they have the best in Europe.

But there are many supporters who wouldn’t be averse to Jurgen Klopp bringing in just one more top tier forward to provide cover and help the club really establish a period of dominance in English football.

And if they are to make a move for a player of that ilk, then they could do an awful lot worse than Memphis Depay.

According to a report from Calcio Mercato, the Reds are ready to rival Tottenham in a swoop for the 25-year-old Dutchman, who has hit seven goals in 10 league appearances for Lyon so far this season.

And if they do pursue a deal for him, it could be a masterstroke.

Depay is not the same player he was when he flopped at Manchester United as a youngster, and through hard work and dedication, has grown into a versatile and well-rounded attacking threat.

As well as his glut of goals this term, he has also averaged 3.9 shots on goal, 1.9 key passes, and 2.3 successful dribbles per game, as per Whoscored, and his average match rating of 7.67 in Ligue 1 is higher than any of the Reds’ usual starting front three this season.

Those are impressive numbers, and after a quiet summer, the Kop will feel that they are due a big name signing in the future.

Depay would be absolutely brilliant.
