Alan Shearer has picked Liverpool defensive duo Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk in his Team of the Week after their 2-1 win against Brighton on Saturday.
The Premier League all-time leading goal scorer selected the Dutch enforcer after he scored both of the Reds’ goals as they collected another three points at Anfield.
Shearer’s side was posted on the Premier League’s official Twitter account on Monday afternoon, with none of their attacking options making the cut.

Alexander-Arnold was included in the side after assisting both of his defensive teammates’ goals, taking his tally for the season up to five already.
OPINION
It is no surprise to see yet another team of the week with a number of Liverpool stars in, with it becoming a weekly occurrence to see at least one Reds’ name involved. With Jurgen Klopp’s men still unbeaten, and finding a different way to win each game, it is inevitable. This time it was the Liverpool defence who took centre stage after the win against Brighton, which admittedly wasn’t the stroll in the park that many expected. Both van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold shined going forward, but it was their efforts to stay strong against a physical Brighton side who bombarded their box for the final 10 minutes when they were a man down that most likely impressed Shearer the most. Klopp won’t care how his side performs as long as they are picking up three points from each game, and the grit his side showed against Brighton more than proved that they can win games many different ways, even if their backs are against the wall for large periods – they have the defensive steel to take home the points.
