A question posed by @AnfieldWatch on Twitter on the potential impact on Roberto Firmino’s role within the team pending the possible arrival of Timo Werner has had plenty of Liverpool fans debating the subject.
Followers were asked how the RB Leipzig striker would fit into the Reds’ line-up if he arrives in the summer, with The Athletic claiming this week [via TEAMtalk] that the Reds are due to begin talks with the 23-year-old over the coming weeks, and how his potential signing may affect the Brazilian’s role in the team.

Firmino has been Liverpool’s go-to centre-forward option this season, starting the vast majority of Premier League and Champions League games in that role and scoring 10 goals in 41 appearances (0.24 per game). However, as noted by The Anfield Wrap, he regularly drops deep to create space and lay off the ball for fellow attackers Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Werner, on the other hand, is a more conventional ‘number nine’ who, as the focal point of RB Leipzig’s attack, has scored 27 times in 34 games this term (0.79 per game), a far higher scoring return than the Brazilian.
These Liverpool fans on Twitter gave their take on how (or if) Werner and Firmino could both fit in the same starting XI if the two forwards are at Anfield next season:
Drop him back make him the playmaker we’re missing

Yes play a 4-2-3-1
— Chris (@Liverpool2Chris) March 5, 2020
Exactly as you put.. you can’t not have Bobby in our best eleven!!
— Gareth (@garethcmitchell) March 5, 2020
Yep! Gives him more space to do his magic just behind the striker… if not then he will take alot of the opposition players with him and leave the front 3 with the space..

I wish we’d stop with all this.
If he signs. He can rotate with the attack or we can play 4-2-3-1.
End of the day we need better depth. A lot better. So let’s sign him and stop debating where he plays and how he fits.— Jonny Twiss (@Twiss95) March 5, 2020
Werner would have to wait for his chance
— Ian Gibson (@ianpetergibson) March 5, 2020
He goes on the bench and waits for his chance. Firmino is never a ‘CAM’.

No, rotation the way city do it. Squad needs to be better, and a creative midfielder is a must, the last few games have shown that.great to have different options
