A number of Liverpool fans have reacted disparagingly to comments made by the club’s on-loan goalkeeper Loris Karius about floodlights in Turkey affecting his vision, as shared by @AnfieldEdition on Twitter.

In an interview with Turkish outlet Fotospor, the current Besiktas player said that the floodlight system used in the Super Lig shone directly into his eyes, negating his line of vision and hampering his concentration, leading to errors that have led to criticism of his performances. The report from Fotospor stated that Karius’ optical difficulties could be related to the concussion he suffered when playing for Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final, which was alleged (but not confirmed) to have happened after a collision with Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos (as per BBC).

The 26-year-old’s Reds career hasn’t recovered from that night in Kiev after he made two costly errors in his team’s 3-1 defeat, with subsequent gaffes in pre-season games against Chester, Tranmere and Borussia Dortmund preceding him being shipped out on loan to Besiktas for two years.

Karius, who also made blunders against Bournemouth and West Ham during his Liverpool days, received little sympathy from these Reds fans on Twitter over his comments about Turkish floodlights, with one accusing him of having a “weak mentality”:

Liverpool fans, what did you make of Karius’ claims that the floodlights in Turkey affect his vision and concentration? Have your say by commenting below!
