According to a report in the Daily Star, which was subsequently shared by @AnfieldEdition on Twitter, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has stepped up his rehabilitation from a recent hamstring injury in order to try and be fit enough to return to action for next week’s Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid.

The 29-year-old went off injured towards the end of the 1-0 first leg defeat in Spain a fortnight ago, with the Reds suffering a downturn in form in his absence as they struggled to beat West Ham at Anfield and then lost 3-0 to Watford and 2-0 to Chelsea. However, the Daily Star reported quotes from The Athletic‘s James Pearce saying that the midfielder has stepped up his rehab ahead of Wednesday’s second leg at Anfield.

Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson told Sky Sports earlier this week that Jurgen Klopp’s side have been missing Henderson badly in his absence, with other midfielders such as Fabinho coming in for criticism from some Reds fans over recent displays and the Liverpool captain winning the joint-most tackles per game (2.2) among Klopp’s squad (as per WhoScored).

Despite the absence of Henderson apparently being sorely felt, these Reds fans on Twitter do not want him to rush back from injury in case he comes back too soon and aggravates the problem to such an extent that he ends up being ruled out for significantly longer than originally thought:

Liverpool fans, do you think Henderson should give himself as much time as he needs to recover fully in case he does further damage by rushing back to action, or is he needed back at the earliest opportunity? Join in the discussion by commenting below!
