Plenty of Liverpool fans have been reacting to a report from The Telegraph claiming that there is a strong likelihood of the Premier League leaders being declared champions if the current season is abandoned due to coronavirus fears.

According to The Telegraph, a senior club executive revealed on Friday night that there was minimal opposition to the Reds being awarded the title of 2019/20 Premier League champions if the season is unable to be completed, with the campaign on hold since yesterday and not due to resume until 4 April at the earliest. Sky Sports claimed that some top flight clubs believe it is more realistic not to expect any matches in the division to be played until the intended start of next season in August.

Liverpool, who were last champions in 1990, would win the title on the field of play if there are no further changes to the schedule and they either beat Manchester City in their next match on the calendar or win two more league games. Their current lead is 25 points, with second-placed City the only team mathematically able to catch them and having just 30 points for which to play (via premierleague.com).

With their team on the verge of winning the league through conventional means, these Reds fans on Twitter would not like to see Jurgen Klopp’s side being awarded the title in a boardroom if the season ends up being cut off at its current point:

Liverpool fans, would a title victory in such circumstances feel hollow or would you be happy to win it through any means given the 30-year wait? Join in the discussion by commenting below!
