The future of Xherdan Shaqiri at Liverpool has been a talking point among a number of Reds fans after an update on the 80-cap Switzerland international from Jurgen Klopp this afternoon.
As tweeted by Liverpool Echo journalist Paul Gorst (@ptgorst), the manager said that the 28-year-old will not be involved in tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth, with the winger last featuring for the Anfield club as a late substitute against Tottenham almost two months ago.
Klopp: “Henderson has a chance for Atletico but not Bournemouth. Shaq is not involved. Alisson is out. He had a little incident before Chelsea then we thought we won’t take any risks. He is out and we will see, next week for sure.”

Shaqiri has suffered a succession of calf injuries over the past year, beginning from his country’s participation in last summer’s UEFA Nations League finals (as per The Telegraph), with recurrences on the training ground in September and January. According to liverpoolfc.com, he continues to be unavailable because of that latest occurrence.
The Swiss winger has made only 10 appearances all season for the Reds, seven of which have come as a substitute. He has started just two Premier League games since the beginning of February 2019, struggling to get into the team even when available to feature (as per TransferMarkt).
These Liverpool fans have been left wondering if there is more to Shaqiri’s frequent omissions than just injury problems and whether he will be at Anfield for much longer:
Klopp said Shaqiri is not involved again. I wonder what the heck is wrong with him and his injuries.

A mystery for sure and his confidence will be rock bottom now.

You’d half wonder has something happened behind the scenes even when fit he’s got hardly no minutes now it’s not even clear what’s wrong with him. Maybe now just seeing out the season before he’s sold on?

Not even giving injury updates really anymore even. I’m wondering if it’s something else they don’t want to disclose? Personal issue or mental health?
