Plenty of Liverpool fans have been reacting to an article from The Athletic journalist James Pearce in which he gave an update on the likelihood of two Bundesliga targets coming to Anfield in the summer.

In The Athletic (and as per @LFCTransferRoom on Twitter), he said that Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz are both on the Merseysiders’ radar but the club would view their respective £100+m valuations as excessive. Pearce was writing in The Athletic about Liverpool’s need to strengthen the overall quality of their squad following a run of four defeats in six games which included their dethroning as Champions League holders on Wednesday night.

Sancho, who has regularly played on both the left and right wings for Dortmund this season, has scored 17 goals and provided 19 assists in 35 matches for the club in the current campaign. That would seem to make him a potent alternative to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, both of whom could miss a large chunk of next season if their respective countries reach the Africa Cup of Nations finals in January. Havertz, a playmaker who can also shift to the right flank, has 10 goals and eight assists from 34 appearances this term (as per TransferMarkt).

These Liverpool fans on Twitter were not impressed with the apparent unwillingness of the club’s owners FSG to loosen the purse strings sufficiently to sign the pair:
