Plenty of Liverpool fans have been reacting to an article from The Athletic journalist James Pearce in which he gave an update on the likelihood of two Bundesliga targets coming to Anfield in the summer.
In The Athletic (and as per @LFCTransferRoom on Twitter), he said that Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz are both on the Merseysiders’ radar but the club would view their respective £100+m valuations as excessive. Pearce was writing in The Athletic about Liverpool’s need to strengthen the overall quality of their squad following a run of four defeats in six games which included their dethroning as Champions League holders on Wednesday night.
Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Kai Havertz of Bayer Leverkusen are on the radar but the size of their price tags (both would command fees in excess of £100M) is currently viewed as prohibitive. [@JamesPearceLFC] pic.twitter.com/gmqrIOyJtu

Sancho, who has regularly played on both the left and right wings for Dortmund this season, has scored 17 goals and provided 19 assists in 35 matches for the club in the current campaign. That would seem to make him a potent alternative to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, both of whom could miss a large chunk of next season if their respective countries reach the Africa Cup of Nations finals in January. Havertz, a playmaker who can also shift to the right flank, has 10 goals and eight assists from 34 appearances this term (as per TransferMarkt).
These Liverpool fans on Twitter were not impressed with the apparent unwillingness of the club’s owners FSG to loosen the purse strings sufficiently to sign the pair:
LFC have the funds to sign these 2 players
But
FSG not willing to use/spend the clubs money on top quality players, unless players are sold 1st…

So they are not targets then. That line has been trotted out all summer to make us seem ambitious. That is their price tag. It’s not getting lowered so we are not interested because we won’t pay what they are valued at. Why do I have to keep seeing their names linked to us.

In other words Klopp wants them but f$g don’t want to spend

If any player is going to make us stronger then you sign them. Especially if its a type of player we need. We need better attacking options. Other than the front 3 we have poor options

out of interest why can’t Liverpool afford one £100m player right now, we are winning, spent sod all in the last two windows, our players are on silly low wages compared to everyone else, every company wants to sponsor us, one of the largest fans bases in the world

No room for that kind of crap anymore. When you’re at the top it’s cut throat. Spend or get left behind ?????
