Many Liverpool fans have been outraged over a report from Miguel Delaney in The Independent claiming that “a small minority” of Premier League clubs want the current season to be declared void if it cannot continue due to the scale of the coronavirus crisis.

As noted by @AnfieldEdition, the Premier League will hold an emergency fixtures meeting this morning to discuss whether the season can continue as scheduled, following positive coronavirus tests for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea midfielder Callum Hudson-Odoi. The Gunners’ weekend fixture against Brighton has already been postponed, as has the entire Serie A season for the foreseeable future.

According to Delaney in The Independent, it is likely that the Premier League campaign will be suspended for a month. That would delay Liverpool’s likely coronation as champions, with the Reds 25 points clear and needing just two more wins to claim their first league title since 1990. As things stand, they could be champions as early as Monday night, although that would depend on results going their way and Premier League fixtures occurring this weekend.

Some supporters of rival club Manchester United have been salivating at the prospect of the season being cancelled and Liverpool duly being denied what seems an inevitable league title, whereas these Reds fans on Twitter are understandably horrified by the prospect:
