Many Liverpool fans have been outraged over a report from Miguel Delaney in The Independent claiming that “a small minority” of Premier League clubs want the current season to be declared void if it cannot continue due to the scale of the coronavirus crisis.
As noted by @AnfieldEdition, the Premier League will hold an emergency fixtures meeting this morning to discuss whether the season can continue as scheduled, following positive coronavirus tests for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea midfielder Callum Hudson-Odoi. The Gunners’ weekend fixture against Brighton has already been postponed, as has the entire Serie A season for the foreseeable future.
Premier League emergency meeting tomorrow.
Some figures at certain clubs disagree with the decision to continue, and feel the season should be voided. [Miguel Delaney]

According to Delaney in The Independent, it is likely that the Premier League campaign will be suspended for a month. That would delay Liverpool’s likely coronation as champions, with the Reds 25 points clear and needing just two more wins to claim their first league title since 1990. As things stand, they could be champions as early as Monday night, although that would depend on results going their way and Premier League fixtures occurring this weekend.
Some supporters of rival club Manchester United have been salivating at the prospect of the season being cancelled and Liverpool duly being denied what seems an inevitable league title, whereas these Reds fans on Twitter are understandably horrified by the prospect:
This can’t be happening

I am just so sad and angry that we work hard to get this title and now it going to be takeing away i just not fair

It would be so so wrong if it was voided…maybe suspend it for a month.

So the figures are? managers of clubs in relegation, Manchester clubs? those not near a top 4 finish. Why void it, players have played all year through sweat and tears, clubs have spent big money on players, training. You would at max postpone it, otherwise it is clubs cheating

Voided is overkill for sure, just postpone it

Instead of voiding, let’s end it right there and that’s it.
