A number of Liverpool fans have lashed out at Redmen TV presenter Ste Hoare over a tweet he posted (via @stehoare) claiming that the outcome of the Premier League season is a trivial matter in the context of the coronavirus crisis.

The virus has so far infected 590 people in the UK and led to 10 deaths, according to Sky News, while some high-profile football figures in the country have been directly affected within the last 24 hours. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea midfielder Callum Hudson-Odoi have both tested positive for coronavirus, with the Gunners’ weekend match against Brighton already postponed while the Premier League holds an emergency fixtures meeting today in response to the crisis.

England’s top flight may go the same way as Serie A in Italy, which has been postponed entirely as the country’s federation admitted that the season may not finish, as per Daily Mail. A similar occurrence in England could have grave repercussions for Liverpool’s hopes of winning a first league title in 30 years, with the Reds currently 25 points clear at the top and only two wins away from being crowned champions – if the agonisingly tantalising probability of ending the three-decade drought isn’t curtailed by the potential cancellation of the season.

Despite the extreme impact of coronavirus in the UK, these Liverpool fans took issue with Hoare’s attempt to view the Premier League season in perspective to the pandemic:

Liverpool fans, do you think Hoare is right to be so philosophical about the Premier League season in light of the coronavirus crisis? Comment below with your views!
