Many Liverpool fans have flatly dismissed a “laughable” report from French publication L’Equipe claiming that the Reds could re-sign Raheem Sterling.

According to L’Equipe, the Anfield club are thinking about a possible bid for the Manchester City winger, who last week said in an Instagram Q&A [via Daily Mail] that he still loves the Merseyside club. The story of Liverpool’s reported interest was posted by @AnfieldEdition on Twitter.

L’Equipe claimed that Pep Guardiola’s side could struggle to keep the 25-year-old if their ban from UEFA competitions for the next two years is upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, with Liverpool reportedly fearful of the possibility of Sadio Mane leaving the club amid interest from Real Madrid.

Sterling reportedly turned down a £100,000-a-week contract at Liverpool in 2015, with agent Aidy Ward claiming that the winger wanted to leave Anfield, and did not report for the Reds’ pre-season tour that summer shortly before his £49m move to Manchester City.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter made it clear that they do not want him back at the club, with one Kopite saying that he’d sooner take back Milan Jovanovic, who flopped at Anfield in 2010/11 and later told the Liverpool Echo that he regretted his move to Merseyside:

Liverpool fans, what did you make of the reports of a possible Anfield return for Sterling? Comment below with your views!
