Many Liverpool fans have welcomed a report from David Maddock in The Mirror stating that the Reds have “zero interest” in bringing Philippe Coutinho back to Anfield.

As stated in The Mirror and tweeted by @AnfieldEdition, the 27-year-old had recently claimed that he wants to return to Merseyside and admitted that he was wrong to force his exit from the club to join Barcelona two years ago.

Coutinho enjoyed a largely positive five years in his previous stint at Liverpool, scoring 54 times and registering 45 assists in 201 appearances for the Reds and making the PFA Player of the Year shortlist in 2015. However, his fortunes have dipped since leaving Anfield in January 2018.

The Brazilian playmaker was jeered by some Barcelona fans last season for his apparently indifferent performances and he has been dispatched on loan to Bayern Munich this term. According to The Mirror, Liverpool are reluctant to sign him as he will turn 28 in the summer and would have minimal sell-on value.

These Reds fans seemed glad that the club have ruled out a return for Coutinho, who reportedly paid €10m (£8.83m) of his own money to push through his move to Barcelona (Mundo Deportivo, via Calciomercato). One Kopite said he would rather see Liverpool move for Kai Havertz, the Bayer Leverkusen who has reportedly been on the club’s radar (as per The Athletic):
