A number of Liverpool fans are hoping that the club could entice Dayot Upamecano to Anfield after a report from Spanish media outlet AS claimed that the RB Leipzig defender is a transfer target for the Reds, with one fan labelling him a “fantastic prospect“.
The report from AS added that Atletico Madrid’s Jose Maria Gimenez and Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni are also on the Anfield club’s radar as they seek to bring in a new centre-back in the summer, with Dejan Lovren potentially leaving the club – James Pearce claimed on Twitter (@JamesPearceLFC, via @AnfieldEdition) that the Reds would be receptive to offers of £15m for the Croatian.
Upamecano is just 21 but has already made more than 100 appearances for RB Leipzig, featuring in six Champions League games for them this season on their way to the quarter-finals. He averages more successful tackles per game (2.1) than any of Liverpool’s current centre-backs and his match average of 72.7 passes, with an 88.8% success rate, suggests that he is comfortable with playing in a possession-based style.
