According to David Maddock in The Mirror, Liverpool are not in the running to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, a development that has polarised some of the Reds’ fan base on Twitter.

The 20-year-old winger had previously been linked with a possible move to Anfield by the Daily Mail, while a piece in The Athletic last week claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s admiration for the England international was well known and that there is a clear appeal for him.

However, in an update shared by @LFCTransferRoom on Twitter, Liverpool’s owners FSG have baulked at the Bundesliga club’s reported £100m asking price and the club are not involved in any discussions about the player, instead preferring to focus on less costly targets (as per The Mirror).

Maddock claimed in The Mirror that Manchester United and Chelsea are the front-runners for Sancho’s signature and that Liverpool’s name was only mentioned as a tactic to drive up his price, with the Reds not considering an approach because they have tied down Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino to long-term contracts.

News of the club distancing themselves from Sancho sparked a mixed reaction from these Liverpool fans on Twitter, with some fuming at FSG while others think the Anfield hierarchy have made the right call:

Liverpool fans, would you be disappointed if the club didn’t make a serious approach for Sancho or are they right to pass on him? Join in the discussion by commenting below!
