In an interview for Empire of the Kop published this morning, The Mirror’s northern football correspondent David Maddock named Conor Coady as one player that he would like to have back at Liverpool – and it seems that plenty of Reds fans share the same view.

The journalist told Empire of the Kop: “I’ll give you one I’d LIKE to see Liverpool sign. And it’s a former player. I really like Conor Coady, he’s a terrific fella, great character and wise talker…and a bloody good footballer too.” Those comments were later shared on Twitter by @AnfieldEdition.

Coady, who is Wolves’ club captain, has played every single minute for them in the Premier League since they returned to the top flight in 2018 (as per TransferMarkt) and he began his career at Liverpool, managing just two first team appearances before departing on loan for Sheffield United and then joining Huddersfield permanently.

The 27-year-old has won 1.2 tackles per game in this season’s Premier League, a better ratio than Reds centre-back Virgil van Dijk (0.8), while his 84.7% passing success rate is better than Liverpool duo Dejan Lovren (83.4%) and Joel Matip (83.1%). The Croatian has been linked with a possible exit from Anfield in the summer, with the Daily Express claiming that Arsenal, Tottenham and AC Milan have all shown an interest in signing him.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter would gladly take Coady back, with one Kopite feeling he would be an ideal addition if Lovren goes and another citing the Wolves skipper as a “Gerrard replacement” in an ode to the Reds’ former Champions League-winning captain:

Liverpool fans, do you think the Reds should consider trying to bring Coady back to the club? Share your views in the comments section below!
